THE CHARITY
Trek4Ceylon Ltd is a charity registered in the United Kingdom, which raises funds through cycling, marathons, trekking, walking and other activities to provide support to the medical infrastructure and underprivileged communities in Sri Lanka and other countries across the world.
We ride together across Sri Lanka as a visible symbol of our hope and desire to bring physical, emotional and mental healing, as well as unity and peace, to a land scarred by war and division.
Trek4Ceylon is run by a group of volunteers who are keen to help the less fortunate and strive to operate the charity with integrity and transparency. The bike ride is organised and run by a dedicated T4C team.
We work together with other Trek4Ceylon charities based in Canada, Australia, USA and Sri Lanka.
Our Story
Trek4Ceylon has its nucleus in a group of school friends from Sri Lanka, now established among the Sri Lankan diaspora community overseas.
Passionate to support their troubled homeland, and to give Sri Lankan children of tomorrow the opportunities they had enjoyed, the friends – with other alumni, international friends and contacts – came up with the idea of a charity cycle ride from Colombo to Jaffna.
The cycle ride recreates the sport, fun and bonding that marks their connection, while also providing a visible means to attract support. Symbolically, by traversing the island from Colombo to the war-devastated north, the ride offers a journey of poignant beauty, healing and hope.
Our Projects
Trek4Ceylon identified St Luke's Methodist Hospital (Puttur Mission), in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, as a fitting cause to support and has established a long-term agreement to help in the restoration of its facilities and healthcare services. The mission hospital is run by the Methodist Church and has a proven commitment to the health and well-being of the local community and, in return, receives its respect and acceptance.
St Luke's Methodist Hospital is approximately 125 years old and in urgent need of help. Due to a lack of funding, the hospital is unable to provide adequate care for the community and is on the brink of closure.
Through the T4C2027 ride, Trek4Ceylon will raise funds towards the renovation and equipping of the building that houses the Outpatient Department (OPD) and the Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU). Three consultancy rooms are to be set-up and equipped to support doctors, one of whom will be a paediatric specialist. Laboratory services and pharmacy services will also be offered to patients.
Funding from subsequent rides will expand these services to include in-patient facilities. There will be a special focus on offering medical services that are not particularly well-addressed by the Government health care system in this region. These services would likely include treatment and care for special needs children, a diabetic clinic, short- and long-term rehabilitation, palliative care, maternity services and dental services.
Trek4Ceylon has its own qualified and experienced medical representatives on the St. Luke's Methodist Hospital Board to guide these strategic investments with accountability.
St Luke's is one of many projects and causes that Trek4Ceylon wishes to support in the future to bring hope and healing to those in need.
